Tips
General Information:
- This portal is for Hernando County Government records only.
- Do not submit any personal information such as social security numbers, birth dates, etc.
- You can log into NextRequest to view the status of your request at any time.
- Be as specific as possible with the information for the records you are requesting. Please also provide a date range for the records you are seeking (for example, from January 1, 2020, to the date of the request).
- After submitting a request, you will receive email notifications regarding its status. If you are not receiving these notifications, please check your spam/junk folder. According to Florida public records law, requests for information must be filled in a reasonable amount of time.
Anonymous Requests:
- You are not required to provide your name or the reason for your request to fulfill it.
- Under Florida law, email addresses are considered public records. If you do not wish for your email address to be released in response to a public records request, you can submit your request via telephone at 352-754-5875.
- Requests can be made anonymously; however, please provide a form of contact information so that we can respond with the requested records.
- If clarification is needed for your request and no contact information is provided, your request may be closed without a response.
Fees:
- A fee may be charged if fulfilling your request requires substantial staff time or county resources. Please click here for policy and fee information.
- County staff will provide an anticipated cost of staff time to gather the requested records, in addition to any other fee estimates.
Public Records Retention:
- Public records retention is governed by the Florida Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services in accordance with the General Records Schedules.
- Records that have surpassed their legal retention period will be disposed of in compliance with state law. Requests for records that have been disposed of according to the General Records Schedules cannot be fulfilled.
Exempt Records:
- Some public records may be exempt under Florida Statutes and may not be available for release.
